JoG almost deserted and no send off! Long way to go!!!

28 April 07
Forsinard
55 miles
On the move now. Wild and very remote - but beautiful. Sun all the way so far.
1 May 07 Loch Fleet 95 miles The view from 'The Mound' (causeway) worth every step. Nature at its finest - despite the roar of traffic. Hi to Donald and thanks for the photos.
6 May 07 Drumnadrochit 157 miles First bad weather day - rain with hail on high ground, but spirits not dampened. Joining the Great Glen Way tomorrow.
8 May 07 Fort Augustus 185 miles Loch Ness now behind - still looking menacing under heavy cloud.
11 May 07 Fort William 220 miles Snow visible on Ben Nevis and surrounding tops. Last 3 days on Caledonian Canal have been a delight. Thanks to Tom for his company. Rest day then the challenge of West Highland Way.
14 May 07 Kings House (Glen Coe) 245 miles After a damp first day to Kinlochleven, now rewarded with a fantastic high level walk and spectacular long distance views - especially from the Devil's Staircase.
17 May 07 Inverarnan 275 miles Weather has turned with mist, rain and low cloud restricting views and making going hard.
20 May 07 Milngavie 320 miles End of West Highland Way and a great experience - despite horizontal rain across Loch Lomond. Hi to all fellow walkers who have passed me by as they go north from Milngavie.
21 May 07 Glasgow City Centre 330 miles A delightful river and canal side walk has come to an abrupt end with the hustle and bustle of M8 motorway and Glasgow. I cannot wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of the countryside.
The last 27 days have taken me through remote highlands, over hills with rewarding views, by Lochs and rivers, under heavy cloud and clear blue skies. Fantastic!! Scotland is wonderful whatever the weather. I have met some wonderful people and have plenty of stories to tell already. Thanks to you all for your support - it means so much, especially when the going gets tough. Please keep the sponsorship coming - miles4money is all about raising as much money as possible for MRDF and Children in Need.
Due to family illness, I had to postpone the leg from Glasgow to Carnforth. This section has now been completed. (See diary for details)
10 June 07 Camforth  330 miles Back on the way now, thanks for everyone's help and support over the last couple of weeks.
17 June 07 Cronton 395 miles The weather has been very dull and cloudy which has spoilt the views along this leg. Hopefully things will improve soon!
23 June 07 Castle Mill 445 miles The hills are now back in view after a very flat and dull leg.
30 June 07 Kington 508 miles The weather has been very bad with some localised flooding. I've had to make a few diversions although I could not avoid a knee deep "puddle" at one point!
6 July 07 Severn Crossing 593 miles After a mixture of rain and sun, with some very muddy sections along Offa's Dyke, I have made it across the Old Severn Bridge. Back home for a week for a well earned rest.

Poor weather has dominated much of this section, often obscuring views and making the going difficult. Thanks to Russell for keeping me company from Kington to Llanvetherine. There have been some good days, and memories of the Kent Estuary (Cumbria), Pont-Cysylite aquaduct, Montgomery to Newcastle on Clun, Hay Bluff & Hattarrall Hill will remain long after the wet days are forgotten. However, all these are over-shadowed by the warm welcome, generous hospitality and help provided by my new found Methodist friends along the way. My sincere thanks to you all. The fundraising target of £5,000 is now within reach so please keep the sponsorship coming - miles4money is all about raising as much money as possible for MRDF and Children in Need.

17 July 07 Hamilton 611 miles It seemed strange returning to Scotland. A very enjoyable day on Clyde Walkway especially meeting fellow e2e walkers, Tom & Matthew Lawfield. Goodluck guys.
25 July 07 Carlisle 700 miles Despite several grey & wet days, the Southern Uplands and distant views of Cumbria were highlights of this section. Also the visit to Wigton Road Methodist Church Carlisle, a magnificent centre for worship.
27 July 07 Keswick 730 miles My passion for the Lakeland has been rekindled by the approach and passage through Caldbeck Fells. More to come later in August.
24 Aug 07 Milnthorpe 768 miles A very significant, though short section, as I can now claim a continuous route from JoG to Severn Crossing. The combination of low and high level walking produced 4 very enjoyable days, with Derwent Water and Lyth Valley particularly beautiful in glorious summer sunshine (at last!!). Now for the West Country.
10 Sept 07 Tiverton 866 miles Since restarting at the Severn Crossing on 3 Sept I have enjoyed sunshine and the sparkling waters of the Bristol Channel. Then twisting and turning my way through the Somerset Levels and over the Quantock Hills before entering Devon.
16 Sept 07 Launceston 922 miles The wonderful Devon countryside is now behind. Dartmoor has been my companion for the last few days, with the views from Meldon and Lakes viaducts the highlights of this memorable leg of the walk.
24 Sept 07 Ludgvan 1013 miles St Michael's Mount lies majestically to the south as the end approaches. Cornwall, with its rugged coastline and green rolling hills has not disappointed. I will always remember the concert at Redruth Methodist Church where the musical talents and pride of Cornish people were in full view.
26 Sept 07 Land's End 1028 miles I approached via Carn Brea (for the view) and the South West Coastal Path via Sennen Cove to arrive at a cold but sunny Land's End and the finish of my adventure of life-time.

The West Country leg of my journey has been a mixture of rolling hills, rich pastures and farmland, barren moors, narrow high hedged lanes and breath-taking coastal views. With warm September sunshine most of the way, this has been a fitting end to my journey through our magnificent island. Physically, I finished in good shape and have never felt as fit. Yet again I have met many new friends from our Methodist Church family and all have been very generous with hospitality and donations to the fund. I have been touched by the generosity of complete strangers who have stopped along the way to chat and given donations . My sincere thanks and good wishes to you all. Am I glad I did it, you bet I am!!!

The fundraising target of £5,000 is now within reach so please keep the donations coming - miles4money is all about raising as much money as possible for MRDF and Children in Need. Thank you.
